'JS Journal' explains that the image is of the winning design by "Phil Clements, winner of the packaging section of the Royal Society of Arts annual design bursaries competition 1979/80. 'I spent about two weeks in total on the project' said Phil. 'I wasn't quite sure how to tackle the problem so I tried to get my designs in the Sainsbury style—I went to the local store and did some market research!' Very successfully too, for JS intend to actually use Phil's winning ideas. One of the judges in the packaging section was JS's own chief designer, Peter Dixon. Before the final judging competitors were invited to the Royal Society for an interview and Peter was so impressed with Phil that he offered him three months temporary work in the design studio at Blackfriars."
