There are stamped inscriptions on all four sides of the crate including the phrase, 'FLORA DANICA MADE IN DENMARK'. A metal disc inset in one end of the crate bears the raised inscription, 'DANMARK 1371'. There is also a further handwritten inscription on the base. The crate probably originally held a dairy product.
