Sainsbury's Blue Stilton jar

One round blue glazed ceramic jar with a removable lid used to hold blue stilton.

There is a brown glaze around the edge of the jar and a white overglaze transfer printed design on the side containing an inscription, 'J. SAINSBURY'S QUALITY FOOD ESTABLISHED 125 YEARS'. The centre of the design contains a large 'S' surrounded by flowers, scrolls and banners. There is a small curved indentation in the lid. This may have allowed a spoon to be stored in the jar the handle protuding through the lid.

There is a dark blue tag attached to the knob of the lid containing information about the product and the best way of eating it. The bottom of the lid contains a label giving nutritional information and the use by date, '11 Jan '95'. According to the label, the jar could hold 227 grammes or 8 ounces of blue stilton.
