Press release stating Sainsbury's position on irradiation.
Statement to the press giving Sainsbury's position on irradiated food "in the light of the very many media reports that have appeared today...to re-state our position clearly so that there is no misunderstanding".
The statement was produced before the Government had legislated to permit the use of irradiation (under certain controls, for certain foods) and states the conditions under which irradiated food could be sold if it was permitted. Sainsbury's (like other UK food retailers) later decided it would not stock any irradiated food.
