Recording of the fifth edition of "Retail Review", a news magazine programme for Sainsbury’s store management teams with reports, interviews with Sainsbury's staff, and video footage from stores. It was presented by Roy Sheppard.
Contents:
1. Presenter discusses the Retail Management Conference 1994 held on February 14th at Metropole Hotel, Birmingham on the theme of “Quality and the Customer”. With brief footage of presentations by Colin Harvey and David Sainsbury; delegates at the conference; and brief interviews with attendees.
2. Presenter discusses the Chichester store fire and how staff from the store were looked after. Footage of the fire is included.
3. Interview with Hamish Elvidge (Departmental Director, Branch Services) about the ‘Retail Quality Initiative’ to improve customer service etc eg new procedures, training. Includes footage of: customers and staff at checkouts, staff talking to customers in fresh fruit and vegetables department, a staff training session in a meeting room, tasting stand, customer service desk, and tobacco kiosk.
4. Interview with Colin Harvey (Retail Director) about 'Quality and the Customer' eg changes to practices to improve quality for customers etc; trials of a new management structure in stores; his thoughts on Sainsbury’s in the future.
5. Video about ‘The Quality Challenge’ depicting runners representing different supermarkets on a cross-country run. The ‘JS’ runner is shown as ahead of the competitors.
6. Concluding remarks by the presenter, and brief video interviews with attendees (store managers) on the key messages of the conference and what they feel Sainsbury’s need to do.
7. Closing title sequence showing footage of staff working in a store.
