"SMART" network special programme, 24 January 1997

Recording of a special business television programme for Sainsbury's staff (mainly store management teams) about the January 1997 trading statement. The programme was broadcast live on the "SMART" network (Sainsbury's Management and Retail Television) on 24 January 1997 from "the conference centre at Blackfriars" [i.e. Sainsbury's head office] by satellite to Sainsbury's stores, depots and offices. It was presented by John Howard.

10:34: Introduction by presenter John Howard, with headline like-for-like sales and group profit forecast figures.
11:25: Interview with chairman David Sainsbury and deputy chief executive Dino Adriano about the figures, Sainsbury's strategy, product availability, cost saving, poor performance of SavaCentre, profit sharing, converting Texas branches to Homebase, and Shaw's.
23:09: John Howard concludes the programme.

Ends with text onscreen reading "Produced by Sainsbury's Group Internal Communications in association with c/t/n [Corporate Television Networks]". In the countdown which precedes the programme the message "A copy of the trading statement is available now on Oasis" appears briefly onscreen.
