"SMART" network special regional programme, 14 May 1998

Recording of a special regional business television programme for Sainsbury's staff (mainly store management teams) about the company's plans for the financial year ahead. The programme was broadcast on the "SMART" network (Sainsbury's Management and Retail Television) on 14 May 1998 by satellite to Sainsbury's stores, depots and offices. It was presented by John Howard.

This programme was intended for Northern region staff. The Archive also has unedited footage of an interview with Ken Barden (Eastern regional director) presumably filmed for use in a similar programme for Eastern regional staff. The Archive does not appear to have any other finished regional versions of this programme.

15:28: Clip of interview with group chief executive Dino Adriano ahead of end of year results meeting at Royal Lancaster Hotel, London. Dino Adriano speaks about the forthcoming "year of delivery".
18:43: Clip of interview in branch with retail director Robin Whitbread about new performance measures and improving sales by 1%.
23:09: Clip of interview in studio with Northern region director Rodney Wooliscroft discussing performance of the region's branches and the coming year. Includes brief clips of exteriors of Halifax and Leigh branches.
