Unedited video message from Dino Adriano about staff redundancies probably filmed for "SMART" network programme broadcast c. 16 April 1999

Video containing unedited footage of Dino Adriano (Sainsbury’s chief executive) speaking to the camera ("piece to camera") in Sainsbury’s business television studio announcing 300 staff redundancies at Sainsbury’s central departments [i.e. head office staff and other staff not working in individual stores]. The announcement was made following disappointing financial results in the fourth quarter trading statement. In the video he explains the reasons for the redundancies and thanks staff. The footage was probably for use in a business television programme for Sainsbury's staff (mainly store management teams) broadcast on the "SMART" network (Sainsbury's Management and Retail Television) on or shortly after 16 April 1999. However the Archive does not seem to have a recording of a programme broadcast around this time to confirm exactly how the footage was used.
