Three videos (and three probable duplicates) containing unedited footage of a Group Staff Council meeting, possibly filmed for a Sainsbury's Business Television programme for Sainsbury's staff (mainly store management teams) broadcast sometime around March-April 2000. The Archive does not appear to have digitized recordings of any programmes confirming that the footage was used.
The footage begins with a presentation about the Group Staff Council (GSC) entitled "The Way We Work GSC Reality check", given by Frances Jackson, Maureen Lawson, Julie Stark, and Jacquie Higgs. It is stated to be a repeat of a presentation from "last December", and the first slide suggests it was first delivered on 8 December 1999.
The Group Staff Council set up in 1996 was intended to improve communication in the company, provide feedback, and report on issues of concern to staff. The presentation discusses the background of the council and how it changed over time, some of the issues which had been discussed by the council, and about how they want to be used more as a consultative group. Slides for the presentation are included on tape 3 of the footage (AV/1332).
Following the presentation, the video shows Kevin McCarten (marketing director) and the GSC discussing various issues in a meeting such as flexi-contracts and the role of the GSC in consultation.
