Brockton Public Markets (BPM) was established by Maynard A. Davis in the late 1850s, he owned a number of stores situated in Massachusetts at a similar time George C. Shaw had opened several stores in Portland, Maine. In 1919 Mr Davis purchased the George C. Shaw company and the number of stores grew under the seperate names until 1978 when the BPM stores changed their name to Shaw's Supermarkets Inc.
