On leaving school I started work at the Westgate service store working on all departments except fresh meat. I had to go to Blackfriars for my interview for a weeks training. Which included working in a mock store, we had to stay in lodgings which at 15 I found very enjoyable. Once at work, amongst other things I used to pat up the butter with 2 wooden paddles, cut cheese to customers individual requirements, cut rabbit into portions plus many other duties that we no longer need to do. When the service store closed I moved to Brook St self service store where I worked in the office until leaving in 1972 to have and bring up my children. I returned to work in 1986 at the Warren Heath store where I now work on customer experience.
