Did anyone else have the great fortune of spending time working in Shaw's in the late eighties / early nineties. I only spent a relatively short time over in the United States, but I loved it!! I thought that it was a really brave strategic move to fully acquire Shaw's as part of the Sainsbury's group in July 1987. By putting the Sainsbury's "know how" alongside Shaw's trading knowledge of New England, a thriving business was developed. Their colleagues were amazing, they rarely moved departments and we're proud to tell me that they had managed the produce department for over 20 years. There were some big differences too - the power of Sainsbury's own label business was almost completely absent in Shaw's. An opportunity that was soon seized upon.
A fabulous experience!
Thank you Jon
