I remember when I was little how my grandmother was excited that Sainsburys was coming to town, as they had a reputation for good quality. Brunel in the centre was that first store in Swindon. It's sad that the council then gave the shopping centre on a long lease to property investors, who now want so much rent that the town centre is dying and Sainsburys has now moved out, after closing the Argos next door. I am living where my gran used to live, but I can no longer walk or cycle to the nearby shop every few days and I am currently driving every 9 days or so to the closest remaining store in town. I do hope they find a new town centre location for after COVID.
