Worked as an A Level trainee under managers Squires and Brookes Lived on site in the hostel over shop overlooking the busy roundabout and central line station Hard physical work at 16. Remember fondly Andy Morris, Andy Tuck, amongst others. Characters, Mrs Grint, Woodhouse, Michael Crump, the two Arthur's, and other dlo's ! Earnings £6.50 per week gross. Local pub Valentine's. Customers would queue outside waiting for shop to open. World cheeses a draw, bacon rashers and joints, and butchery - all in preparation room downstairs. Cooked meats and sausages arrived in ammunition boxes! Can't think why I love shopping over 50 years later and still enjoy identifying cuts of meat. Left to go into insurance as was told it was a cushy job, it wasn't!
