I was a butcher in the W Ealing branch around the time the self service part was created and the butchery department moved from the old shop (which became the self service shop)into the other shop (circa 1968). The new butchery counter then ran the whole length of one side of the shop. The Head Butcher was, if I recall correctly, Stan Gunter. After we worked late on a Friday preparing the stock for a busy Saturday service we would all go across the road for a pint. The W Ealing branch was very busy
